Hotel Pratap Bhawan

At the end of my month in India, it’s sad to leave Pratap Bhawan on New Years Eve. It’s the loveliest hotel I’ve stayed at so far. The welcome was warm, my room was lovely, and Charcoal, the rooftop restaurant, was excellent with fabulous views. Right in the old town, too, so it’s easy to walk everywhere.

We stayed at Pratap Bhawan for nearly two weeks, and the beautiful property was clean and well maintained. The owner was polite and helpful throughout. What I appreciated most was his goodwill: twice, after we checked out to stay at other hotels for short periods, he kept our room reserved for us at no charge. He also lent me a portable WiFi device while I was working from anywhere, which made things much more convenient. The location near Lal Ghat, just behind Jagdish Temple, made it easy to explore the main attractions and enjoy old Udaipur. Charcoal, the rooftop restaurant, has a spectacular view of Lake Pichola and the old city. The food there was average, but the hospitality and view more than made up for that. They also serve drinks upstairs, and the evenings were peaceful and relaxing. It was a fantastic, comfortable stay, with clean rooms and genuine hospitality. I’d highly recommend Pratap Bhawan to anyone visiting Udaipur.

The manager was very nice and quickly offered us another room when the A/C stopped working in our first one. We enjoyed the food, especially the grill and BBQ dishes on the rooftop terrace alongside the classic Indian options. There’s a nice view of the city and lake from up there. The hotel is in the middle of town, only a five-minute walk from the palace.

The rooms are airy and spacious, and the furniture gives them a royal, aesthetic feel. I loved the window, it’s worth it. The top floor has a cafe and a good view, too. Friendly people and staff, and all the major places are within walking distance.
