Hotel Kalawati Palace

The staff were the best part of my stay. They were professional, genuinely helpful, and handled requests quickly and cheerfully. But the room wasn't properly clean when I arrived: dusty surfaces were obvious, and the bathroom needed more attention. The meals were disappointing too, consistently lackluster in both quality and preparation. It’s a shame the physical condition of the hotel and dining didn’t match the staff’s hospitality. At this price I expected better hygiene, and the food and cleanliness make it hard for me to recommend staying here.

We had a comfortable, memorable stay and would recommend the hotel to visitors. Getting to nearby key spots was easy, and the staff responded quickly and politely whenever we needed anything. Our room was roomy, clean, and well looked after, with convenient amenities. We also really liked the fresh, tasty food and how well it was served. Managment well Done

Mantavya worked well for our wedding group in Varanasi. The restaurant food was delicious, and breakfast had a good spread. Staff were well behaved and provided very good service. The location, close to Banaras station, made getting around easy, with autos and cabs readily available. We also found the mix of regular rooms and larger rooms with two large double beds useful for fitting our fairly big group. I’d highly recommend Mantavya to anyone visiting Varanasi.

I'm staying here now, and getting around the hotel and room has been frustrating. The lift or room labels seem wrong: I pressed third floor, but the rooms are in the 4 series. We were given just one key, awkward when more than one guest shares a room. During the day there are repeated power cuts, especially annoying if you're watching TV, and building work brings constant hammering. The bathroom has a rain shower and a tap with a bucket and beaker, but no detachable regular shower. With long hair, I don't want the rain shower soaking it, and filling the bucket takes ages, so there isn't really a normal shower experience. Service has had odd problems too. A porter woke me from a deep sleep by repeatedly ringing the door chime, then tried to push laundry through the door. I had to raise my voice to say we hadn't requested laundry and he had the wrong room. On the first day, room service listed four ice cream flavours but only had mango, plus banana, which wasn't listed. There's no signing or receipt for room service. I paid the bill in cash at reception and got no receipt, so I'm unsure what happens with the payment; the internal administration seems questionable. The hotel is quite far from the temples and Ganges darshan, and sits on a busy, very dusty main road. The paving outside is broken, with large power cables hanging out and ditches and holes. If you walk around, good shoes and a mask are advisable. Older guests and anyone with mobility issues shouldn't venture out without assistance. There are only a few small shops nearby.
