Our guide, Mr. Vishal, deserves a special mention. He knew the city’s history well and handled the lively, chaotic ghats with ease, making our tours seamless and enriching. He was professional and patient, and went out of his way to keep us comfortable and informed. Ask for him if you stay here, he really adds to the experience. The service at Amritara Suryauday Haveli made a great stay unforgettable. From arrival, the staff showed us warm, personal “Atithi Devo Bhava” hospitality.

The terrace view is beautiful, and the staff are warm, courteous, and genuinely try to help. My criticism is about the hotel’s access and management, not their attitude. Getting there was extremely difficult with my parents, who are over 70 and need wheelchair assistance at airports. The final stretch is along dark, uneven lanes that vehicles can’t enter. Staff helped with the wheelchair whenever we went out, but the bumpy ride through the street meant my parents didn’t venture out. One of them nearly fainted from exhaustion after walking along the lane late at night. I couldn’t reach the hotel by phone. I called several times before arrival using the number on Google and its website, and even Cleartrip said they couldn’t reach the property. Breakfast was extremely poor, with very limited choice and mediocre quality. For a hotel costing over ₹20,000 a night, it was one of the worst breakfast experiences I’ve had. After I explained what my elderly parents went through, management’s only offer was “lunch on us,” which felt underwhelming. Losing a room key costs ₹1000, so keep it safe. For the price and overall experience, the value is very poor. Lovely staff and a nice terrace view don’t make up for the accessibility problems and weak management. I’d fully avoid it when traveling with older people or anyone with mobility issues.

The rooftop restaurant is beautiful, as is the waterfront balcony just off the courtyard. Get up early and you can watch the sunrise and daily life unfold along the river. This hotel is perfectly placed in Varanasi near the ghat and Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and offers a heritage stay with river views. The food was amazing, and nothing was too much trouble for the chef or staff. They don’t serve alcohol, but that wasn’t a problem for me. Life happens on this river, and you can see it all. I think the experience is a must for world travelers, and I’d thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Inside, it feels peaceful and grounding, a calm retreat from the chaos outside, while the location makes it easy to explore. The place is spotlessly clean and homely, with beautiful paintings. Our bigger-room request was kindly arranged upstairs, and the staff were consistently polite, attentive, and accommodating. The courtyard with its Shivling and Parijat tree is lovely, and the balcony looks out over the river. It’s easy to take a relaxed walk along the ghat or hire a boat nearby. I also enjoyed the unusual tunnel staircase to the back exit. Dinner came with excellent food and mind-blowing Hindustani renditions. At 2 a.m., one staff member even walked with us and helped us get onto a rickshaw to reach the Temple. We’d happily return, and deeply appreciate the warmth and dedication of our hosts, managers Mr. Uday Yadav and Ms. Anjali Singh, and housekeeping and dining staff Kanhaiya, Azad, Faiyaz, Vikas, Dileep, and everyone else whose name I haven’t mentioned.
