Hotel Edda Egilsstadir

We only needed a place to sleep and shower for the night, and this did the job. It's in a great location, and we found the rooms clean with everything we needed. The building is an old school, so don't expect an upscale, modern hotel. From a room at the back, though, the view is absolutely amazing.

The rooms were small and had a rotten egg smell. Around the hallways, the furniture was ripped up and covered in dirt and dust, and the old student Sharpie marks were all over the furniture. It seemed like an old university. For what we paid, I expected more. Breakfast was horrible and overpriced, with very few options. It was 30 dollars per person for bread and waffles. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're okay with those conditions.

The price is far too high for what you get. If it were a cheap budget place, I'd judge it differently, but at this rate I'd recommend driving farther to find somewhere more comfortable, with better amenities and value. There are other hotels in the area that offer more. Hotel Edda's facilities are extremely basic, and the place feels as if it hasn't had meaningful updates in years. It comes across more like a run-down student dorm than a proper hotel. Compared with Iceland's generally high accommodation standards, it falls noticeably short. It feels as though Hotel Edda is relying on a reputation from the past, and those days seem to be behind it.

We came with a tour group. The rooms are basic, but they were comfortable and clean, and breakfast was good. Service was very good, too. It's good value. Just keep in mind the rooms are also used as dorms during the school season.
