The northern lights came into view while we were stretched out in bed, which was such a treat. Luna and her human greeted us too, and it was probably the cutest welcome ever. The place was incredible, and I loved every second of the stay. One small thing: since it’s quite remote and nobody is there overnight, an inside lock on the bubbles would help guests feel more secure. I don’t think anything would happen, but it would be reassuring.

We reached our bubble after dark and found only about a third of the footlights working. Ours was the last one, another 20-30 meters past the roughly 75 outdoor stairs from the parking area. The facilities cabin is by the lot, but getting there from the bubble meant a trek in 0°C weather after climbing those stairs. The room didn’t seem to have temperature control, and nobody giving directions explained how to adjust it, if that was possible. The trees around our bubble were so overgrown that there was only about a one-meter opening overhead. We had hoped to see the northern lights, but clouds blocked them, and the trees would have made viewing difficult anyway. I never got an email confirmation with directions, so I had to call. The photos also didn’t match the Olvisholt location. There are a dozen similarly priced places with en suite facilities now, so I’d spend the money elsewhere.

The night views were great when the stars or northern lights appeared. Still, I wouldn’t choose this in winter, unless our chilly bubble #6 was just bad luck. The heated air inside felt cold, though thankfully the bed heater worked and kept us warm.

I wish I’d been warned before booking. The price felt like zero value: the place came across as an unmaintained, cheap camping ground, despite the magical photos, and I left frustrated and disgusted. The bubble was dirty when I arrived, with stains, mold, and dust everywhere. It was cold too, since none of the electric mattresses worked. More than 20 guests were sharing just two toilets, with queues and no comfort or hygiene. The service building was tiny, dirty, and far from the bubbles. For what they charge, basic cleanliness and working facilities should be expected. I can’t understand how this place is open, and calling it a hotel is a joke. I’ve stayed at other bubble hotels, and this was the worst.

We caught the Aurora Borealis every night during our three-night stay at the end of our Iceland trip, sometimes right from the bubble. It was cold, so the heated mattresses were much appreciated, and the beds were comfortable.
