Iceland Comfort Apartments by Heimaleiga

The room on floor 1 was clean and comfortable, with a good bed and bathroom. The place suited our needs pretty well, and service was easy to contact. It’s in an unbeatable spot, with easy parking and only 15 minutes to downtown Reykjavik. Food options nearby are limited, though the pizza restaurant at the Art Museum was excellent and East Gate Cafe was very good. The tradeoff is that this is budget accommodation: the headboard was worn, kitchen units old, window opener bust, tap loose, and fridge poorly secured. It didn’t seem like much maintenance was being done, perhaps part of why it was cheaper. Cleaning staff should also vacuum the lobby. On our last night, the fire alarm went off, but there were no clear instructions about where to gather, so guests just hung around the lobby while someone tried to reset it. The next morning, the system still showed a fault and beeped, with no maintenance team having fixed it. Surely the fire alarm should be a priority. If everything was safe, they could at least have emailed us to say so. There are better places to stay in Reykjavik, but they’ll cost a lot more than we paid.

The management company’s response when I asked them to address the problems or move us was basically, “We’re sorry, but you’re out of luck. We can’t do anything.” We had a terrible stay. Everything is self-check-in, which isn’t so bad by itself, but it also means there’s no staff around to help. As soon as we entered the room, I noticed it was very loud and scorching hot. It was 15 degrees outside in Iceland, so the room being 30+ degrees made no sense. Someone had left the radiator on full blast. We turned it off and left the window open to cool the room while we dropped off our bags, but six hours later it was still just as hot. We tried shutting the window to block the noise, since the booking description claimed it was “soundproof,” but it literally wouldn’t close. We put in earplugs and tried to sleep, exhausted, but the room was right by the highway and constantly noisy. The room description also promised a double bed, but we got two singles pushed together, which was very uncomfortable for a married couple. Maybe you’ll get a decent room and not need help, but we had an awful time. Stay at your own risk.

Getting help here was a problem from the start. You can only reach management through online chat, and although they said someone would inspect the room, nobody came. We also reported that both the counter and shower soap dispensers were empty, but got no reply and no refill. On top of that, there was a sewage smell coming from holes in the bathroom floor, as shown in the pictures. A terrible stay, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The location was great, the price was decent, and we had a nice view from the room. There’s free guest parking too, though the lot looked mostly full whenever we returned. We were lucky to find a space each time. The bathroom was rough. The shower had no proper door and drained badly, leaving dirty water pooled around whenever we used it. The water smelled strongly of sulfur and tasted that way too, so we bought bottled water at the grocery store. We were only there two nights and still ran out of shower basics like soap. The stay was just okay.
