Höfn HI Hostel

I’d happily stay here again next time. It was really clean, the kitchen was spacious and well equipped, and the coffee was great.

Parking was easy, and we were able to charge our rental car at the EV charger. The owners were around, very friendly, and gave us great advice for the rest of our trip. We had a fantastic time. The hostel was extremely clean, with a great layout. The bedrooms looked brand new, and I liked having a sink in ours so we could brush our teeth without going to the Beth pond. If you’re thinking of visiting this area, you should definitely stay here!

We paid far more than the price shown in these reviews, about 30% less than what came up when trying to book directly or through bookings.com. The whole experience left me feeling that tourists are expected to pay 50% more than anywhere else in the world for less service. Everything in Hofn seemed overpriced and under-serviced, and I won’t return to Iceland. At Hofn hotel, the bath smelled so bad I had to shut the bathroom door and run the fan all night to breathe without smelling mold. There were no glasses, the chair looked at least 40 years old, and the reception attitude was basically, “take it or leave it.” We tried to reserve dinner and were told reservations were only accepted for groups of eight or more. The reception sent us to the restaurant, but the man there said they’d had reservations for two months and there was no chance we could eat there.

The communal areas were the highlight, with great spaces to cook and relax. I arrived wet and tired, and was glad to find an excellent drying room in the basement. There’s a small hill next to it where you can watch the sunrise. I didn’t take many photos because people were in the room and I arrived late. The bathroom and showers were excellent, everything looked new, and the 10 bed bunk bed room was spacious, comfortable, and laid out well. It’s been the best hostel I’ve stayed in so far, and good value for money. I’d give it 4.5.
