House on the hill

We were unsure about sharing a bathroom, but it turned out not to be an issue. The tea and coffee were much appreciated. My only complaint was the awful pillows. The guest house made a great first impression: the welcoming lady who greeted us created a relaxed atmosphere. We had booked a small room and were surprised by how spacious it was. Everything looked modern, clean, and well presented, with spectacular views.

The place felt warm and clean, and the staff member we met was friendly. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms have underfloor heating, which is nice in winter. The kitchen is on the small side. There isn't much room to move if more than two people are trying to cook, and it could use a freestanding stove and a washing machine. Still, a great place to stay.

The communal kitchen had no pots or pans, which was a small downside. We stayed in the right building, and the rooms were very nice. The living area of our room was beautiful, and the showers were clean and modern. A suitable guest house.

We had to stop for the night when winter road closures got in the way of our drive to Akureyri. Somehow we found The House on the Hill, and it turned into our best stay in Iceland. After a long, rough drive, the owner(?) Thordess (spelling?) was especially friendly and kind. She fit us in at the last minute. Low season meant the guesthouse was nearly empty, apart from one other young couple, so we mostly had it to ourselves. Thordess gave us the largest upstairs room, which was so comfortable. The beds were great, the pillows perfect, and the mountain views from our room were lovely. Everything felt new and tech savvy, and the washrooms were amazingly clean. I think the shower had heated floors, and we could adjust the bathroom temperature ourselves. Downstairs, the kitchen was very clean, convenient, and well equipped. The mini stove top over the mini oven was really neat. Just clean up after yourself so the next guests can enjoy the same cleanliness. Check-in and check-out were super convenient, and we slept like babies. We'd definitely stay here again if we come back!
