Hotel Terme Metropole

One of my best hotel experiences ever. A very good, well-maintained hotel in Abano, with great spa and Ayurveda services.

I tried this hotel once and won’t return. At check-in, nobody explained how anything worked, so you’re left to figure it out yourself. There were only a few staff, rushing around, and they weren’t helpful or friendly. The brochure said I could have breakfast in my robe, but it was in Italian, even though my name doesn’t seem Italian. When I tried, a man rudely told me I couldn’t and had to stay outside and order from the waiter. There was no menu, and the waiter eventually brought half the things I don’t eat because he’d misunderstood my order. No comment. At checkout, they just took payment and nobody asked how the stay had been. This is the worst GB group hotel I’ve stayed at so far. Trieste&Victoria and due torri offer excellent service and hospitality.

The pools and treatments are top notch, and the food was amazing. I’d recommend booking full board. There’s a dress code for lunch and dinner, which is quite nice, and the hotel offers fun events for free, including stargazing, bicycle trips, and aqua aerobics. The Basic and Classic rooms are quite dated and need renovating. WiFi is slow, with spotty signal in most areas, so keep that in mind if you need internet. Only key staff members, such as managers, speak English. If you don’t speak German, French, or Italian, you’ll be using Google Translate a lot. I’d probably visit again next year.

The pools are superb, and the service is really fast. It’s an outstanding hotel if you’re able to walk a kilometer and a half or 2 to the piazza. I can’t give it 5 stars because the hotel controls the air conditioning and decides when to turn it on. I’m convinced this has a lot to do with saving money. We suffered through the first 2 nights until I put my foot down and they gave me a fan for the room.
