Stazzu Coiga

Tucked away in the Sardinian hills, this restored country house is quiet and has a beautiful infinity pool. Breakfast was stunning, with plenty of homemade cakes and jams, plus ham, quality cheese, and fruit. The hosts were remarkably friendly and attentive, like they really cared about their guests' experience. And they have three extremely cute dogs!

You’ll need a car here, even for the nearby restaurant, since there’s no practical way to walk to it. Still, it’s a lovely, peaceful spot in the mountains, with great views and very little noise. The owners have three dogs, so it may not suit you if you don’t like dogs. Two of them were wary of our dog at first, but they got along after a while. Our room felt a bit dark because it had just one small window, though that wasn’t a big issue since we spent most of our time outdoors. A tea or coffee machine in the room would’ve been nice. Breakfast was great, with homemade cakes, butter, jam, ricotta, and more. They even packed up the cakes we hadn’t eaten for us to take along later, a really nice touch.

The hosts, Katerina and Alessandra, are the heart of Stazzu Coiga. They were warm and welcoming, shared local tips and stories, and made us feel at home. Breakfast by the pool, with the mountains around us, was a real treat. There were pastries, fruit, and cheeses, and the yogurt, salumi, and butter were made on the farm. Alessandra’s cappuccino was especially good, made with real care. Our dog Toffee is pretty difficult and selective after coming from an animal shelter, but he managed to befriend all three farm dogs. Stazzu Coiga sits in the Sardinian countryside in Località Coiga, up in the mountains. The beach and Aggius are both about 20 minutes away, though getting there means driving a dark, winding road. If you want a country farm stay away from the bustle, the setting has that authentic feel. The place itself is simple and rustic, with basic but clean rooms and no fancy amenities or modern luxuries. The beds must be a hundred years old, but I slept like a bear. I do prefer a bit more service and choice, so this wasn’t quite my cup of tea, though it could suit people who love being surrounded by nature.

The hosts were really nice, even though they don’t speak English. We came with our two-year-old, and he loved it here. It’s a great agriturismo in the middle of the countryside, with a stunning pool and garden. I’d definitely come back next time we visit Sardinia.
