The owner was so kind. I got there around 9 p.m., and he showed me around the room and did his best to make me feel welcome, even though his English wasn’t very good. The next morning he let me check out an hour late and gave me a really good cup of coffee. I’d booked somewhere else in advance, but the area felt very dodgy. Men kept watching me, there were piles of rubbish and a stink, and lots of guys smoking weed and drinking. As a solo woman traveler, I felt unsafe and decided to stay here in the city center instead. I highly recommend this place for its central location and kind owner. If you’re traveling alone or with only women, I’d avoid staying outside the city center, since it felt super dodgy.

Carmelo took time out of his busy schedule to help us make the most of Agrigento, with great tips for places to visit and beaches to relax at. We also needed a beach umbrella, and he helped us rent one. We had coffee with him every morning, and he’s the president of Agrigento’s B&Bs. Martina also deserves thanks for cleaning our room each morning. The property is fabulous, well cared for, clean, and equipped with every comfort. It’s in the city center’s restricted traffic zone, but residents can enter twice, once to unload and once to load luggage, and parking is conveniently close by. Kindness and hospitality really define this place and the whole city. Stay with Carmelo and you won’t regret it!

The location is the main reason I’d recommend B&B "Al Vicoletto": it sits in a little alley off Agrigento’s main street, Via Atenea. The room and the rest of the apartment were tidy and had no particular problems, though being so close to the main road can mean some noise. Carmelo was friendly, but I contacted him directly to book and he quoted me more than the price shown on Booking. When we arrived, he also insisted on payment in cash even though I wanted to pay by card. Later he pointed us toward "Sal8" for dinner, making it seem like booking through him would get us a special discount. That wasn’t true. I got the impression he was sending customers to places he has ties with, despite saying otherwise. In my view, go for the location, not Carmelo’s honesty.

The house was welcoming, clean, and right in the center. We had a fantastic weekend, even though the vacation was short, and the owner’s knowledgeable advice helped make it so nice. She paid close attention to what we needed and really looked after us. Go, you won’t regret it.

Hospitality seems to come naturally to Carmelo, a Sicilian gentleman of Greek and Arab heritage. His B&B is a delight in Agrigento’s historic center. See the rest for yourself.
