Borgo Casa Scaparone

We both chose the tasting menu, and I had the vegan one. It was a generous amount of food, served at a nice pace. The restaurant has loads of character and a beautiful atmosphere, and the food was superb. There's a huge wine selection from across the region, and the recommendation we asked for was a hit. Service was attentive and polite too. Hope to visit again someday!

We were given two rooms when we arrived: a superior room in the villa and a triple room in the courtyard beside the big entrance gate. The superior room was spacious and nice, but its lock was hard to open and close, the shower smelled bad, possibly because there was no siphon, and there wasn't enough hot water when more guests arrived. The triple room had a damaged, crushed mattress and beetles. They offered us another room for that one. The old buildings are beautiful, but they need upkeep. The rooms and shared areas were very dusty, and the electrical and plumbing systems were loose and hanging out.\n\nBreakfast was very poor for the price, and the same every day over our four days: baked ham, cheese, eggs, biscuits, a sort of chocolate brioche, stale bread from the night before, yogurt, butter, and jam. They say they serve local products, but they could make a cake with their own ingredients. I don't understand why such a beautiful property is being allowed to deteriorate. I won't return and don't recommend it. At checkout, even though they knew about our problems, nobody asked whether we were satisfied with the room change or offered a discount.

The estate grounds were breathtaking, and the kitchen on site turned out incredible food. The staff were exceptional too. This is just what I pictured when looking up a rustic Italian villa tucked into the heart of Piedmont. My husband-to-be and I had a great trip, and I'll definitely bring my kids next time.

The place looks beautiful, but only one staff member was helpful, and the wifi didn't work. Getting there and back costs a lot, there's no Uber, and reaching Alba in general is a hassle.\n\nMy two cents: check the photos, cut your bed in half with a chainsaw, order a white truffle online, shave it over some overcooked Mr Noodles with cream, and voilà, that's the experience.
