Il Gabellota Resort

After a visit to Alberobello, which is interesting but quite crowded with tourists, it was a pleasure to come back to Il Gabellota at the end of the day. We spent three nights in this carefully renovated Trulli complex, once an old Apulian farmhouse with outbuildings. We loved the peaceful walks among the Trulli, past roses, trees, and pomegranate shrubs that are clearly cared for with love. The sunsets, lovely pool, our hot tub, and generous breakfast all added to the stay. The staff were kind, helpful, and always available.

The rooms are scattered through an olive orchard on the edge of town, about 10 minutes' walk from the back of Alberobello's Unesco area. Being outside town felt quieter and safer. Staff are very helpful, and it's a quiet spot for couples, with simple, basic facilities. There's a small pool, and some rooms also have a jacuzzi. The rooms are adequate, but need updating, and the bathrooms show a few signs of age. The place could use a refresh. Fine for a stopover of a few nights, as long as basic is enough.

Getting into town for dinner means a walk, but we enjoyed exploring it on foot. We had a fun few nights, loved our trulli room, and thought the pool area was amazing. Breakfast was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It's especially good for cyclists, with plenty of nice riding nearby. I highly recommend this place.

The staff are great, attentive and around when you need them, but somehow not constantly bustling past. Aurora was kind and very helpful. It made the place feel like somewhere to relax at home, rather than a busy hotel. There are several shaded seating spots outside, hanging chairs, and an outdoor pool that's open 24/7. Above all, it's peaceful. The quiet isn't boring, it's the kind that lets you decompress if you're usually plugged in all day. il Gabellota is a real haven of calm, so don't let any negative associations with the word “resort” put you off. The rooms are brilliant, though check the photos first. The Trulli rooms are more rustic, which is nice, but may not suit you if you prefer a modern style. There's lots to do within a 30-60 minute drive, and the staff can help you find things.
