Ostello Salento

The location was decent, with things in town within walking distance. There was also an outdoor area to relax and two big, lovely dogs. But our experience at this filthy hostel was very bad, and after reading international reviews I can see others have described similar things. We asked for AC and were told there was no remote. After we insisted, the owner turned it on, then switched it off once we went to bed. The beds had ants and the walls were dirty. The kitchen was only open for about two hours per meal, so if you missed that window you couldn't get your own food, even if it was in the fridge. You could only eat when the owner allowed it. Sheets, towels and other things cost 5E, which wasn't mentioned in the booking description, so those were hidden fees. Wouldn't recommend it.

Quintino was so kind and kept checking what we needed, making sure we felt comfortable. The atmosphere at Ostello Salento was warm and welcoming, the food was great, and the room was big enough and comfortable. It's only 3 minutes from the train station, with a supermarket nearby and even a nightclub. There's also a lovely hill just 2 minutes away where you can watch the sunset. A great experience, thanks for everything!

The two Labradors were friendly and cute, but that was the only good part of staying here. I wouldn't recommend the place. It said towels could be borrowed, but when I arrived they wanted 5 euro just to borrow one. The food was disgusting, and after eating one of their meals I had a stomach ache for two days. Fleas and mosquitoes were everywhere and made the stay horrible.

You can come and go at any time, and there's no set breakfast hour. Just keep in mind breakfast is only coffee or juice with a brioche or pasriccioto leccese. There's no shared kitchen, though you can store food in a fridge, and there are some couches for relaxing. The pool was clean, and the air conditioner worked well at night. A van goes to the center almost every hour, with a ride costing 5€, though there are discounts for using it all day and so on. The downside is the mandatory 5€ charge for bed sheets. The bathrooms weren't very clean, as they were only cleaned in the morning.
