La Playa apartment

There are rules everywhere, and staff keep reminding you about them. The rooms are pretty low standard, and apparently you have to avoid looking the dog in the eyes or it goes crazy. Still, the staff are kind, the pool is good, breakfast is good, and the location is close to perfect. It’s a shame you can’t eat breakfast outside by the hotel pool, but rules are rules.

What a lovely hotel. We got a fantastic welcome, and the ladies who run it made us feel right at home. The pool is great, with flowers and trees around it, and the garden is so well kept it feels like being out in the countryside. Breakfast was lovely, and I can’t say enough about the food. The coffee was amazing too. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were great, and the bed was comfortable and well maintained. You can tell how much pride they take in the place. I’ll be back.

We liked having the beach just 100 metres away, while the small gardens, pool and scattered sunbeds gave us somewhere quiet to relax. The hotel is family-run and traditional, and the rooms aren't modern, but ours was very clean; towels were replaced daily and the sheets midweek. Breakfast was great and the family and staff were exceptionally courteous. Its position worked well for us, close to beach bars and restaurants like Farmacy, with buses into town and the centre also walkable if you want to go into busy Alghero in high summer. The mattress could have been better, but that was my only real fault.

We had a fantastic stay here in July 2023, and it was good value in a handy spot. Maria Pia and Alghero's city beaches are easy to reach, and the old town is about a 20-minute walk away. The outdoor pool area was lovely, and breakfast changed from day to day and was great. The staff were helpful, especially Franco, and our room was comfortable. The interior feels a little dated. You can hire a fridge, though it would be useful if every room came with one.
