The rooms were a problem, unfortunately. In one of them, getting to the bathroom meant walking through someone’s sleeping area. Even the coffee pods cost 1 euro. Hard to leave a positive review.

The room was clean and came with Wi-Fi, a TV, a hairdryer, and a private bathroom with a shower and bidet. The staff were so kind. I got in late, and they picked me up from the station and asked whether I’d eaten. If I hadn’t, they were ready to get me a pizza. They also pointed me to a café for breakfast and gave me directions for the Via Francigena. Friendly place, and I’d recommend it.

Dinner takes a little planning: the nearest authorized center is at least 1 km away, though you can order pizza and eat it at the guesthouse. The owner welcomed each of us with a bottle of cold water and was glad to share local tips. It’s a useful stop for the Via Francigena. The Lucca-Altopascio stretch is a few kilometers longer if you go to the guesthouse, but the following day’s leg is shorter.

A quiet place with clean rooms and a nicely renovated bathroom. The owners are very friendly, and it’s good value. There’s an excellent pizzeria in town, and Lucca is about 20 minutes away, making this a great base.

4/10
The owners are very kind and the place is reasonably clean, but it’s several kilometers from Altopascio, with nowhere nearby to eat in the evening. For a Via Francigena stop, the price doesn’t feel justified.
