Grand Hotel Excelsior Amalfi

I almost never write reviews this harsh, but my stay at Grand Hotel Excelsior in Amalfi from September to October 2025 was bad enough that I feel I need to warn people. On the final day, I found a large patch of black mold inside my room's air vent. I'd been ill throughout the trip, exhausted and congested with sinus problems, and seeing the mold made me understand what might have been behind it. I sent the hotel photos by email and followed up three more times. Nobody replied. For something that could affect guests' health and safety, I expected concern and action, but all I got was silence. There were other problems too. The whole lower floor smelled strongly of mildew, suggesting ongoing water damage and neglect. The building felt worn down and poorly cared for, far below what I'd expect for its price and reputation. The pool, which was one of my main reasons for booking, was filthy and covered with algae, so it wasn't sanitary or usable. The bed was so uncomfortable it gave me back pain. The shuttle also felt unsafe. One driver hit a parked car, recognized it, then drove away without reporting it. On a different day, the shuttle was involved in an accident serious enough for someone to be taken to the hospital. I wasn't in the vehicle then, thankfully, but the lack of accountability shocked me. Being sick for the entire trip made us miss excursions we'd booked in advance and badly affected our time in Amalfi. Even after repeated emails, I still haven't heard back. The mold, accidents, poor upkeep, and failure to respond left me feeling that guest safety, cleanliness, and basic hospitality weren't being taken seriously. I would strongly advise against staying here.
