Hotel Fortuna

Right across from the station, so the location is very convenient. The staff were friendly and happy to store my heavy bags, which was no problem at all. The room had a typical Italian feel but everything I needed, including a clean, especially spacious bathroom. Breakfast was a solid start to the day: cakes and croissants, plus bread rolls, toast, jam, cheese, salame and ham. Juice, coffee, and tea were there too.

The water looked cloudy and made me a bit uneasy about brushing my teeth. My single room had a window, but the view was just the backyard. On the plus side, the hotel is right opposite the train station, about a one-minute walk away. Buses to the town centre take around 10 minutes, and you can get a ticket at the cafe next door or on the bus. Very convenient. Wi-Fi was good, water pressure was good, reception is open 24/7, and breakfast was average.

A handy place to rest before taking the ferry. The rooms and toilet were clean and tidy, prices were affordable, and the staff were very friendly and spoke English. There are small snack shops on both sides where you can get a decent meal for about 10 euros. The area felt a bit rough, with a few sketchy people around at night since the bus station is just across the road. If you arrive by motorcycle, take your important things with you and make sure it’s locked. The same goes for cars.

Hotel Fortuna is a simple, basic place, but I felt it was worth the price. My room had a desk, bed, wardrobe, and small balcony; the bathroom was a decent size. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and housekeeping did a good job. Staff were polite and spoke English well. It’s directly across from Ancona station, useful for train trips around the region. The old town isn’t walkable, but frequent buses leave from the station, and you can buy tickets at the coffee shop next door. A few drawbacks: in May the air conditioning was set to heat, so the room got stuffy during the day unless I left the balcony door open. There was no kettle or mini fridge, Wi-Fi came and went during my 2-night stay, and there was only one plug by the bed, so bring a multi-plug adapter if you need to charge several devices. There isn’t much food nearby, and the room keys are clunky to carry around. The shower had great pressure and was nice and hot. No kettle, so I used the hot water to make tea.
