Hotel Melchiori

The setting is hard to beat. You're basically in the centre, with the mountains just beyond the valley, about 10 minutes on foot from the ski area and 5 minutes from the bus. On our first evening, the sky over the mountains turned yellow and pink at sunset, and we could see it beautifully from the hotel car park. It felt like a good start, and it was. Inside, Hotel Melchiori has a cosy, welcoming feel, with wood everywhere, bright colours and lots of little details. The entrance is on the lower level, but from the moment we came in we felt very welcome. Our room had plenty of space to move around and was warm. It faced the centre, so I could see the church tower lit up at night. Some people in our group had a room at the other end of the corridor, looking out at the mountains. I could have spent hours looking at that view. The staff were kind at every hour. From breakfast right through to after dinner, when I went back to the bar for warm water for my kids, they were smiling and ready to help. They made me feel like part of the family, rather than just a customer. There was plenty for the children to do, too. Two activity leaders organised things during the day, then ran baby dance and games in the evening. My kids, from 1 and a half to 9 years old, loved it. At first I thought it might be a bit much, but that's the grown-up view. For kids of 8 or 9, it was a great way to make friends and have fun. Thanks to the team for putting in so much energy. The dining room has paintings, photos and lots of other details. Even with most tables occupied at dinner, it wasn't too noisy. I especially liked the buffet, with plenty of vegetables and really good focaccia. Breakfast had cakes, yoghurt, croissants, eggs, bacon and more. I tried something different each morning. There's a wide choice for the evening meal, too, and breakfast and dinner both had plenty on offer. We also enjoyed the relaxing wellness area, with a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, massages and steam baths. The glass panels beside the pool look out toward the mountains, which makes for a lovely space. The pool isn't huge and can feel a little crowded, but there are other things to do. Hotel Melchiori is a lovely place for a relaxing holiday in the Dolomites, whether you're travelling as a family or a couple. I'm already looking forward to going back.
