Domus Angularia

You can walk everywhere from this place right in the centre of town, and it’s quiet in the evenings. The lake view is stunning, and having breakfast on the terrace is a nice bonus. The place was clean and the owners were friendly. The bathroom is shared, unfortunately. This was also used as a set for an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.

Couldn’t ask for a better spot in the heart of the old town. The room is stylish and spacious, and the terrace is amazing, with a view that’s even better in person than it looks in the photos. The kitchen is welcoming and well equipped. Thanks, guys, for being so friendly and for all the recommendations!

This is my third year in a row at Domus, and it’s my base for cycling trips. I wish I were rich enough to buy an apartment in town. When you stay here, have breakfast at Al Centrale. It’s busy with locals, friendly, and has the best pastries and snacks. After cycling around Sicily, I still thought Veronica’s coffee was the best. Stefano is the new owner, taking over from Veronica, which is a lot to step into, but he’s doing a great job. It feels just the same and also different. This has to be the best location in Anguillara, bar none. You’re in the square inside the castle, with a beautiful room and bathroom, about 45 minutes or 45 kilometres from Rome. Honestly, it’s much better than staying in Rome. You get the Italian experience without the cost, and you can head into Rome each day if you like, then come home to Domus Anguillara. The view from the verandah is one of Italy’s great views. It’s classic Italy, with the lake stretching out in front of an ancient village. Each time you return from a walk around town or a trip to Rome, the sky has changed, and the view keeps giving. Without the cars and electric lights, it could be 300 years ago.
