The gardens and paths were a joy to wander with our little one, and we loved spotting the family sheep, Snow White, in the vineyard. After an evening walk we even came across a big soft toad. Each day brought beautiful sunrises and breakfast in the garden, and even the cloudy, moody weather was spectacular. This place feels so warm, restful, lush, and picturesque, like a much-loved family home. We spent a week here in August with my husband and our three-year-old. The ancient Schloss itself is beautiful and very well cared for, and the grounds are unbelievable, with paths, gardens, and little lawns to explore. The pool is marvellous, and breakfast beats many five-star properties. Housekeeping and breakfast staff were especially kind, went above and beyond, and were so sweet and patient with our child. St Michael is an easy, gorgeous walk away, either by the old roads or through the forest, and has restaurants, cafes, and shops. It's also a short drive to many tourist spots, including hikes, lakes, wineries, and fine dining. We loved our time at Schloss Englar and will be back.

Our booking at the schloss was cancelled just 3 weeks before our flights, with no understandable explanation. I suspect they overbooked, so be warned. Disgraceful.

The bed was a bit uncomfortable, and there was no air conditioning or fan. If you don't want to sleep with the windows open, there's no other way to get ventilation in the room. English was a challenge, but their terrific hospitality helped us get through it. My wife and I enjoyed our 2 nights at this bed and breakfast. The castle has been nicely modernized while keeping its old-world feel, and the surrounding area is tranquil and beautiful. The service was impeccable.
