We were lucky to get a pitch at the far corner, with lovely views across the farmland. The pitches are arranged in rows, and the campsite is handy for the town and nearby sights. The facilities were decent, with warm showers, though there was no toilet paper. The pool was great, but it was closed the day we arrived because of morning rain. It was boiling later, so having nowhere to cool down was disappointing. Thankfully it reopened the next afternoon despite an overnight storm, and the lifeguard was friendly.

The one thing in Camping Aquileia’s favor for us was its closeness to Aquileia. It’s within easy walking distance of a beautiful, peaceful UNESCO World Heritage Site, a place where you can take your time. The Capannina restaurant was also a real plus, five stars for the staff and food. We stayed three nights in early October, when the weather can be unpredictable. A storm on our first night brought down branches from the trees that almost completely cover the campsite. Keep that in mind. We chose the site because it was near somewhere we wanted to visit, but it let us down badly in autumn weather. The ground was muddy, trees covered nearly everything, and the facilities were exposed to the elements. Utility lighting was poor, and in some areas there was none at all. The comfort pitches are basically twice the size of standard pitches, which means twice as much mud after rain. They’re also the unlit pitches by the fence facing the Basilica grounds, and they aren’t covered by the ACSI price deal. We paid 133.80€ for one night on a standard pitch and two on a comfort pitch, for two adults and a dog. Our previous campsite right on the Adriatic had a beach view, pristine facilities, hardstanding, tarmac roads, and utility lighting, and cost 117.49€ for four nights. After Camping Aquileia, we spent three nights at Lake Garda for 81.71€, with a beach view, good facilities, hardstanding and tarmac roads, and lighting everywhere. Camping Aquileia isn’t fit for purpose in bad weather out of season and shouldn’t be open in autumn. There were other problems too, but I’ve run out of willpower.

This was a quiet, peaceful campground, and we heard neither street noise nor church bells. We spent three nights in Aquileua with two people, two bicycles, and a tent. All the pitches were spacious and shaded by large trees. Reception was very friendly, and the staff spoke German and English fluently. The toilets, showers, and dishwashing area were cleaned for two hours every day. There’s a market across the street with everything you need. Some reviewers complain about having no toilet seats or toilet paper, but those are things you can manage without. I’d recommend the place to anyone looking for a clean, quiet campsite.

We only stayed one night in our own tent. There was plenty of room to pitch it, and the ground was soft and comfortable. The receptionist was helpful and friendly, the pool water was clean and a lovely temperature, and the town was easy to get to. We barely got any pool time, just 30 minutes during our whole stay, because the opening hours were too short. There were mosquitoes everywhere, even in the bathrooms, apparently because of stagnant water nearby. We both got terrible bites, so the site should address that. The facilities could be much better too: no toilet seats, tiny shower cubicles, and just one sink for washing dishes.

It was a really nice campsite, right beside the archaeological grounds. The pitches are all shaded under trees and the facilities were very clean. Finding the electrical hookup was the tricky bit. 🤣
