The mirrored room let us down: it wasn’t very clean. I found a huge spider in the shower twice, and the floor, curtains and carpets needed better cleaning. Such a shame, because the castle is charming, quiet and beautiful, with a real medieval feel. The owner was very kind and helpful, and the nearby Piccolo Ranch restaurant also serves good food.

We chose this lovely place for my husband’s birthday. The rooms were clean, beautiful and welcoming, and we were greeted with kindness and delicious black cherry juice. The owner was wonderful. We ate at their farmhouse, where the food was excellent and the service very kind. Breakfast brought to the room was such a treat, and very plentiful. Everything was wonderful.

Inside Paradiso del Re, a B&B set within a medieval castle, the rooms reflect the castle’s history, and some have frescoes showing scenes from that period. There’s also a King and Queen’s Room for themed dinners for couples. The owner is friendly and charming, and makes you feel at home. Arcevia is a beautiful village inland from Senigallia, about 535 meters above sea level, and the castle setting is breathtaking. Families and couples can come for the history or just a dip into the past. If you love castles, I recommend a short stay. €€ /€€€

We booked through Smartbox for one night, breakfast and a three-course dinner. For arrival, it’s best to park downstairs and walk up. At “Piccolo Ranch,” their restaurant, a sweet and kind Simona welcomed us, walked us to the hotel and offered homemade sour cherry liqueur in the lobby. Then she showed us “the room of desires,” and wow. With its bed, wardrobe and spectacular wall fresco, it felt like stepping back to the 18th century. It doesn’t have a refrigerator, TV or air conditioning. The bathroom has a shower with a color-changing showerhead and a hairdryer, and the best part was a massager on the bed. It’s not far from the sea, and suited us well for two relaxing days. At dinner, Angelo, the owner, and several other very kind ladies welcomed us. There were six first courses, five second courses and two side dishes to choose from. I slept wonderfully, and his wife, also kind and friendly, served a hearty breakfast. Highly recommended if you’re after peace and relaxation.
