Hotel Punta San Martino

I only visited for a day pass to use the pool and restaurant, so I can't comment on the hotel rooms. The location high above Arenzano is hard to beat, with views of Genova and the Ligurian coast and beaches below. The pool is huge and the water was fantastic, though it's a shame the diving board has been removed. Everyone working at the pool and restaurant was very kind and ready to help. The lifeguard was especially nice, fixing the umbrellas and sunbeds. The restaurant menu is simple, but the food is good quality and the prices are reasonable. Parking at €1 per hour is a good service, though it could be improved or included in the day pass. Absolutely recommended. See screenshots.

The view is really lovely, and that's the only reason I'm giving it three stars. The rooms and corridors feel dated, like stepping back into the 80s, and the price is far too high for what's offered. The staff try, but seem young and inexperienced. Breakfast meant a long wait for coffee, and the parking area is quite small. I can't think of anything else positive. The hotel needs a serious renovation.

The hillside setting is beautiful, with a wonderful view of the beach and Genoa. The large balconies are a plus, but the rooms feel cold and bare, with no pictures or other decoration. The two pools were neglected, with peeling paint everywhere, and the corridors and very slow elevator didn't help. There are lots of stairs, so getting around would be hard for older people or anyone with mobility problems. We found dinner and the breakfast buffet only mediocre and rather uncared for. There were no fresh bread rolls or jam, for example. The dining room felt lifeless, and the bar was cold and uncomfortable, more like a canteen with a few small tables. Parking was awkward, with several lots that weren't close by. We brought our dog, but the hotel didn't feel dog-friendly. There was nowhere in the grounds to clean up after the dog and no nearby green space. There are many trees around, but even more concrete. For me, this isn't a four-star hotel; at most I'd give it three, and it didn't meet our expectations, so I can't recommend it.

The pools and kids club weren't ready, which was a pity. We also wanted an easier route to the path by the sea, but the elevator never came up. Still, we were very happy overall. The rooms were spacious, which worked really well for a family, and they were cleaned every day. The staff were amazingly friendly, and breakfast on the top floor was tip top, with an amazing view.
