Private house La Corte Del Re

I paid for a one-night stay in the room I booked at the lovely location by Piazza Grande, Via Borgunto 7. They said there was a problem with that room and moved me to a dusty, smelly, substandard one at Corso Italia 114. I'm sure they sold my booked room to someone else. I've reported this to Booking.com. The pictures tell the story.

We had a very pleasant stay, and the hotel price was quite reasonable. The rooms are agreeable and tastefully furnished, with some looking out over Arezzo's main square. We had breakfast at one of the cafes on the square, which had a great atmosphere. The service was good too, and I can fully recommend the hotel.

I was left angry and very upset by this stay. The hotel told me I could drive into Arezzo's limited traffic zone if I gave them my license plate, so I did, and they said I was cleared to come by car. It seemed fine at the time. Two years later, after Italian police traced me through the car rental company to my home in The Netherlands, I received a fine for over 200 EUR because my car had never been registered for the zone. I asked the hotel to reimburse me, since they admitted it was their fault, but they refused, saying more than three months had passed. The delay was caused by the bureaucracy, and the hotel simply ignored that. Terrible. If you're planning to drive, DON'T BOOK THERE, it could end up very expensive.

What a charming little place, right on Piazza Grande in Arezzo. The rooms are excellent and have a small corner for cooking. Breakfast is served at cafe Varsari on the square, and they also offer a dinner menu formula that's very good and worth the price. A lovely, enchanting spot.
