Hotel Pax

The room was attractive and clean, with a view over the old city that we loved watching from inside. We’d worried about noise from people passing by, but it was very quiet. The room was a long way from the lift, despite our having been told it would be close. The bathroom was at the far end of a pretty long corridor, with about 3-4 high steps to get to it. Younger people might find that charming, but older guests, especially after a long trip like ours, should factor it in. If this is your only stop, it’s no problem. Breakfast downstairs in the basement, reached through a cute casement door, was the usual Italian fare and certainly adequate. The hotel is run by a very classy family, and it’s a lovely little find in the middle of Assisi’s old city. I did have an unnecessary tiff with the younger person at reception, which he handled well, and I’m sorry about it. I thought it was good value. I’m sharing these details to be honest, but we were extremely pleased with our choice and definitely recommend it.

The breakfast buffet in the basement of this historic building was very good, with plenty of continental and Italian options. The staff were super friendly and helpful in every way. The hotel is centrally placed, just steps from Chiesa Nuova and the Piazza della Commune, and an elevator serves two of the three guest room floors. There’s also Ristorante Medioevo around the corner, owned by the hotel. We really recommend it for the tasty food and good service.

Antonio made our stay memorable. We had to get going early, and he personally put together breakfast for us before the regular breakfast time. He also owns the restaurant next door, which was delightful and had the best food in Assisi. The restored brickwork was breathtaking, and our rooms had original, complex vaulted ceilings more than 800 years old. Lying in bed and looking up at them was amazing. You’d be a fool to stay anywhere else!

Hotel Pax is family-run, with very kind people, and is a beautiful, well-kept historic hotel. It’s right in the city center and close to everything. They serve a traditional Italian breakfast, and I loved the hidden staircase that leads to the breakfast area. The indoor photos are of the hotel room; the outdoor ones are from walks in the nearby area.
