La Rocca

Of all the places we stayed, this one left us the most disappointed. The bed lived up to the hotel’s name. The staff were the least welcoming, and we had the most trouble communicating during meals.

We don’t usually eat at hotel restaurants, but the menu looked good and we’d heard nice things, so we gave this one a try. The meal was incredible. We couldn’t sit on the magnificent terrace because it was too cold and windy, though the inside is very nice too. Vera looked after us and was so friendly and lovely. She made us feel like family. The food was absolutely excellent: the minestrone was among the best we’ve had, and so were the Carbonara and pasta with fantastic lemon and bacon. Absolutely divine. The wine list is very good, and so are the prices. We highly recommend it.

The service and kitchen team are amazing, so open-minded, funny, flexible, customer-oriented, and really nice. I felt welcome right away. I don’t usually write recommendations, but I had to for this place. I really enjoyed my few days here. Great hotel!

It’s fine if you’re after a budget, no-frills place in Assisi. We hadn’t chosen it ourselves: after a problem with our reserved place, our BnB host booked rooms here at the last minute. The location worked well for touring Assisi, up at the top of the hill in a quieter area. The rooms weren’t very soundproof. We could hear a lot from next door and people leaving the restaurant, though thankfully it didn’t bother us by bedtime. The host was all business, just handed over the room and key and wished us a good day. Our BnB host hadn’t paid for breakfast, and after seeing how crowded and noisy the dining area seemed at checkout, I was glad.
