The location is lovely, with plenty of options nearby whether you want to walk or take a bus, and the staff were lovely too. I was a little cold at night, so during the first three nights I took blankets from the second bed to keep warm, and that worked fine. The beds were made each day. On the fourth day, the staff must have noticed, because they left an extra fluffy blanket on my bed without me ever mentioning I needed one. Such a thoughtful touch.

The place was clean and had what I needed for a comfortable city break. It’s close to Stazione assisi, and the staff were welcoming and knew how to make guests feel well looked after from the moment I arrived.

The reception service wasn’t very nice, and the rooms didn’t feel consistent. We booked three rooms at the same standard and price, but they differed in size and what they included. Some had no kettle for coffee or tea, or the standard water mentioned on the website. When I asked, I was told only some rooms have those things, and the differences aren’t all listed online. The carpet smelled a bit, so we had to open the window to air out the stale smell. Not a pleasant stay.

The room kettle and hair dryer didn’t work, and the hotel itself felt cold and nearly empty. It’s beautifully designed, with a church inside, but there wasn’t much warmth or friendliness from the staff. Most looked unhappy, apart from the curly haired lady who worked as a handyman. Manager Savino was especially unhelpful and didn’t seem suited to a customer facing role. Aurora was fine, though probably limited by poor leadership. A four star hotel with one star customer service. It was day five of our Italy trip and our worst experience so far. Avoid if possible.

The hotel occupies a converted monastery, and the rooms and restaurants have been updated. The staff were very helpful. It’s an exceptional part of Italy.
