I chose this hotel while my husband was having emergency surgery. It worked well for visiting him every day since the hospital was only six minutes away. The room was nice and clean, though the air conditioning didn’t work and I had to leave the window open in the heat. The food was okay, and for the price it was an okay place to stay. What happened on my last morning really upset me. For all six days, I took breakfast up to my room so I could talk with my husband on the phone instead of sitting in the restaurant. They gave me a tray each time, and it had never been an issue. That last day I took a small breakfast, just yogurt and coffee, and realized six minutes later that I’d forgotten an apple. The cleaning and kitchen woman yelled at me in Italian, which I couldn’t understand, so she got another woman to translate. She said I wasn’t allowed to come back for more food. I tried to explain I’d only forgotten the fruit and hadn’t taken much. She insisted I’d had cornflakes, which I hadn’t. At checkout, the same woman went into my room, took out the rubbish, and showed everyone a mini cornflakes box she found in the bag. It was from the day before. She even searched through my rubbish. I couldn’t believe it. That kind of treatment was completely out of line. I spoke with the manager, who said the staff have rules because lots of people take advantage. Rules are one thing, treating someone this way is another. I wasn’t trying to take advantage. I was having a hard trip with my husband in hospital and just wanted breakfast in my room. I’d simply forgotten some fruit. All this over one apple is hard to believe.

The rooms were good and the service was fine, but ordering dinner was a struggle. The restaurant menu was translated so badly that we couldn’t tell what the dishes were and ended up with plain pasta. The waiters’ English didn’t clear things up.

You can still spot reminders of when this was a four-star hotel. The place is nice, the staff are kind, and breakfast is good.

The people were friendly and welcoming. They even have bikes available for guests.
