Il Roscio

We came to Il Roscio for lunch on our way through Tuscany after seeing it on the TV show Camionisti in Trattoria. The staff came through on our hopes for a fully homemade Italian meal. They were friendly and efficient, and served my son right away, which helped with a toddler's impatience. The food was the highlight. The cold cuts were a dream, and the huge grill really set expectations high. The woman running the BBQ clearly knows her work. We had the arrosticini and grilled salsiccia, both cooked just right. The handmade pasta was delicious too: I had the cacio & pepe, and my son had the simple but excellent pasta la sugo. I found the porcini mushrooms too oily. Meat lovers should have a great time here. I expected a cheaper bill, perhaps because of the TV show, but the price matched the quality and I can't complain. It's an authentic trattoria in every way, helped by its closeness to the motorway and easy parking, especially for truck drivers. The furniture, mise-en-place, and TV all feel right for the place. It's far from high standards, but genuine and clearly rooted in a love of tradition. The restrooms could use more care, and a changing room would be considerate for customers. Atmosphere: 8.
