I came across this lovely family hotel on Google Maps while looking for somewhere decent and affordable for our honeymoon. For our October 2024 Dolomites trip, we chose Serena Albergo in the Auronzo area for two nights instead of paying for a more expensive hotel in Cortina d’Ampezzo. It turned out to be the best decision. After an eight-hour drive from Milan, we arrived in Auronzo exhausted. Nicola, if I’m remembering the name right, welcomed us and carried our bags up to the first or second floor, which we really appreciated. At 9:30 pm, he also suggested a restaurant and called to check whether it was still open for us. Thank you so much! The room was cozy and had enough space for two little Asians like us, though Western guests might find it a bit small. It had just been renovated, so everything was great for us. We didn’t know how to switch on the heater the first night, though, and it was pretty cold. Breakfast was simple but enough to give us energy: bread, bacon, cereal, cheese, salad, juice, and coffee. The breakfast room was cozy, with assigned seats for each room. I loved seeing Granny make coffee or another drink for herself. She reminded me of my own Granny, and I missed her. I hope Granny stays healthy and lucky. Thank you for your kindness and service. I’d definitely stay at hotel Serena again if I get the chance to visit the Dolomites.

The receptionist was helpful and friendly, and the grandma was cute and friendly too. But the shower really stood out: it was clean, warm, and bright without harsh lighting. Even with the hot water turned off, I didn’t get cold. The seals lined up so well that no water escaped, even during a long shower. I’ve stayed in many places across more than ten European countries, and no shower room has impressed me this much. If you want a shower without shivering, this is the one!

The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating, and their family has run the hotel across generations. They also made us and our Labrador feel very welcome. Breakfast was delicious, a lovely start to a day of hiking. We hiked the Misurini and Tres Cime, and visited Lago di Brais. Those experiences were truly breathtaking, and we’d highly recommend Albergo Serena to anyone exploring the beautiful Dolmites. The hotel is in an adorable village with lots of walking trails along the river and mountain. It’s right across the river from the Ski Resort, connected by a beautiful wooden bridge. There’s a grocery store and a few restaurants within walking distance, and we loved the Pizzeria. You can also follow the river on foot to the next town, with plenty more places to eat and shop. Free parking is just a few steps from the hotel.

The owners give very personal service and can make decisions themselves to help make your stay enjoyable. Check-in was efficient despite the small staff, and you can tell they’ve put care into the hotel and rooms. Everything was extremely well maintained. The rooms aren’t large, but they’ve been renovated well and have shelves and cupboards. Parking across the road is free. The hotel has a great view and sits opposite the local ski lifts in a beautiful area. It’s classed as two stars because there’s no lift, but they carry your luggage and include a free breakfast. A charming family hotel and a lovely experience.

They were flexible when we needed to move our dates just a few days before arriving, and they still welcomed us when we got in after midnight. Breakfast was lovely too. Really appreciated it.
