Meublè La Perla

I wouldn't go back. The price felt way too high for the poor quality and unprofessional treatment, almost like a NAS inspection. The outside looks renovated and pleasant, but inside there's a stale, musty smell that immediately makes the place feel dirty and old. The room decor looks straight out of the 1950s, though the rooms were reasonably clean. The hot water was actually cold, like mountain spring water. You have to go 300 meters to the owners' hotel for breakfast and dinner, and things weren't any better there. Breakfast was meager, just a few croissants. Dinner was a nightmare: rancid cold cuts, raw chicken, and desserts that didn't match the basic recipe and weren't listed on the menu. As someone at risk of allergies, I had no way to know what was in them, which felt like Russian roulette. The waiters rushed us, and when we got to the cafe they told us to give up our seats for other customers, who were friends of the owners.

The owners were friendly, but that alone doesn't make the management professional. Our room was only just adequate, despite being charged the regular room rate. The bathroom had a broken toilet seat, a faucet that wouldn't properly shut off the hot water, and several rusty parts. The carpet had only been cleaned superficially. Breakfast at the hotel was forgettable, with cheap ingredients, including milk and coffee-like drinks, and left a lot to be desired.

The place itself is nothing special, but could be fine for a weekend if you don't expect much. It has dated, classic mountain decor. I'd remove the carpet, clean the shower more thoroughly, and get rid of the cobwebs on the windows. I wouldn't recommend it, though. After a six-hour journey you might find yourself without a room, then have the owner treat you arrogantly instead of apologizing. I booked Meuble la Perla for the Lazio training camp in Auronzo di Cadore because I needed somewhere that would take my dog. I'd read some poor reviews, but with booking difficult at that time of year, I thought I'd settle. I emailed the owner with my needs and dates. She seemed kind on the phone a few minutes later and explained the deposit, so I booked and was glad to have found a place. The trouble started the night before we left. She called to say she was expecting me, but the dates she'd noted were different from the ones in our conversation, emails, and deposit transfer. She just said "OK" without apologizing, and we set off the next morning. We arrived around 3 PM, half an hour after the stated 2:30 check-in. We'd been traveling for more than six hours and were tired, but let that go. Around 5 PM, she called again to say that because of her mistake, she had no room for us on the last night. She'd got both our check-in and check-out dates wrong. She didn't apologize and sounded rude and annoyed. She could have told me when we checked in, but seemed to have overlooked it. I asked why she hadn't mentioned it the day before, before we left Rome. She hung up quickly, saying she was "working." A little later she called back to say she'd found us another room and would take care of everything. Then she saw my dog and said it was too big, even though I'd specified in my email that it was a large dog and gave the breed. She asked us loads of questions and said some guests had seen it and complained less than two hours after we arrived.

We got a great price and a lovely solution just a few days before leaving, thanks to the incredibly kind and helpful woman who welcomed us. Our quadruple room was spacious, with very comfortable beds, and the location is right in the center of Auronzo. We stayed at Meublè la Perla B&B for two nights. Breakfast is served at the centrally located Hotel Aurora, just a short walk away, and it was generous and delicious.
