Hotel Relais Des Glaciers

We loved our first stay at the Relais, but this time we booked their apartment, and it didn’t meet the standard we’d come to expect. It’s separate from the main hotel, with no lift, and there are two outdoor flights of steps to carry luggage up to the entrance. With snow and ice, they felt precarious. When I mentioned the icy steps, staff put salt down. We shared the apartment with another couple. One bedroom was normal sized; the other could barely fit a single bed and a cot. The small bathroom had no hooks for towels or robes, so with four of us we hung things on door handles and the tops of doors rather than put wet items in the closets. The kitchen tap was so loose we had to hold the pipe to turn the water on and off. I mentioned the lack of bathroom hooks to the cleaning staff, and they addressed the ice, but of course they couldn’t do anything about the room size. I hadn’t expected to sleep on a small cot at the rate we were paying. The apartment needs attention, and it’s disappointing to say so. The staff were wonderful and always willing to help. Breakfast was generous and fantastic, with so many things to choose from, and the stay was generally warm and relaxing.

We had a fabulous three days at the Relais. The hotel is beautiful, with a fantastic outdoor hot pool and a lovely spa with good facilities. The rooms were spotless and every staff member was polite and friendly. Breakfast deserves a special mention: the quality and choice were just what we could have wished for. Champoluc is a little gem too, with great hikes in summer and skiing in winter. This is the best hotel we’ve found in the Alps, a 10/10 for us. We highly recommend it and will be back! The rooms were really comfortable, and after skiing we loved relaxing in the lounge with a drink and a game of cards. Breakfasts were incredible, and the wellness centre was fantastic. Everyone on staff made us feel welcome. We’d definitely come back and highly recommend the hotel.

The outdoor whirlpool is large and really nice. The indoor one is also very big and pleasant, though it could use some maintenance. Breakfast was good, with amazing fresh orange juice, but it’s a shame there were no lunch or dinner options. I asked for hangers for wet outdoor clothes because the room didn’t have any, which seemed very strange, but nothing was fixed during my stay. The gondola in Champoluc is an easy, nearly flat walk of about 10-15 minutes if you’d rather not wait for the free hotel shuttle.
