The wellness area is what makes this place special. After a day outside, you can soak in either the indoor or outdoor Jacuzzi, warm up in the Finnish sauna with its mountain views, then linger over Alpine herbal tea. The outdoor tub sounds especially lovely under the stars, with snow around it in winter or flowers in summer. There are just five rooms, with exposed beams, wool fabrics and big windows that bring in the morning light. The setting is a small mountain village, looking out over green valleys in summer and snowy scenery in winter. It feels intimate, and the rooms have a modern Alpine look. Breakfast is a generous buffet of homemade bread and cakes, Marcella’s wild berry jams, valley cheeses and cured meats, yogurt, mountain honey, fresh juice, coffee and herbal tea. In summer there are guided hikes; in winter, nearby resorts offer skiing and snowboarding. A really relaxing stay, highly recommended.

The owner even arranged a table for us at the restaurant next door. Breakfast was laid out for ten, though it was just the two of us there. We’d booked a room with spa access, and everything was excellent. The owner was very friendly, and the spa felt great after a long walk in the mountains.

We found this place at the last minute, and they had no trouble accommodating us. It was great value, simple but classy, and right beside a walking trail for our summer break. We’d like to come back when ski season starts.
