Solemar Sicilia - Residence Mer et Soleil

We spent four days here in January with our child, and weren't happy with the stay. The house was cold, and it took us two days to get the apartment warm enough to feel comfortable. There are three air conditioners for two rooms and a kitchen, but the one in the kitchen wouldn't turn on and the unit in the children's room kept cutting out. The high ceilings and weak heating made it take even longer. The air conditioners in the bedrooms sit right above the beds and blow straight onto you. Warm air was bearable, but I can't imagine sleeping under them in summer with cold air blowing directly at you. We were given one key on a shared ring that couldn't be detached. It had to stay in the system to keep things working, so when we left and locked the door, we took the key with us and couldn't leave the apartment heating up while we were out. We've travelled a lot and never had such an awkward key setup. Several outlets didn't work either. The cabinets in the rooms smelled moldy, so we kept our things in suitcases because our family is allergic to mold. The bathroom was a nightmare: very old, like something from the 1980s, with mold on the walls. The shower leaked even when unused, leaving a puddle by the wall. There was another puddle under the bathroom window by a radiator that didn't work. The bathroom is small, so we had to watch where we stepped, and the leaks meant there was mold and a moldy smell in the room. The kitchen was okay, though old and very worn. Everything worked there except the air conditioner. There were kitchen utensils, bedding, and towels, which we appreciated. Still, apart from the beautiful view out the window, there was nothing to make us want to return. I wouldn't recommend these apartments to other guests. For this price, you can find much better options near Palermo. It's a shame we weren't luckier.
