Val Di Coreto

The property itself is beautiful, but our family stay was let down by the condition of the place. We found dust and cobwebs that looked months old, a used handkerchief under the bedroom pillows, and a somewhat stained bedspread. There was no toilet paper except for the partly used roll already in the bathroom, and the Wi-Fi didn't work in the rooms. When we raised these things with the host, he insulted us instead of apologizing and said it was normal. We had a one-year-old baby with us. What a shame.

We paid €400 for three double bedrooms, about €135 per room, and expected the owner to check the cleaning, upkeep, and heating. Instead, the house was freezing and extremely dirty, with cobwebs everywhere and what seemed to be around twenty bedbugs that we removed. The owner said cobwebs and bedbugs were normal in a country house, though surely not in those numbers. He also said a cleaning lady looks after the place and he can't check everything. The mosquito nets were all ruined, the toilet seat was dirty and encrusted as shown in the photo, and the sheets were stained, also shown in the photo. Heating cost extra and could only be switched on remotely by the owner, so we had to call him. It still wasn't working in the evening. He said I should have gone to the outside shed to check the boiler, but it was pitch dark and there wasn't even a light out there. When he came in the morning, he was extremely rude and arrogant, dismissing the dirt, cobwebs, and insects as normal countryside conditions. At that price, I expected him to check every corner and make sure the house was maintained and the heating worked, and to fix anything that needed attention without me having to chase him. A terrifying experience. Definitely avoid.

It's peaceful and surrounded by greenery, yet only a short distance from Civita di Bagnoregio. The farmhouse was clean and had all the comforts our family needed. The owner was friendly and available when we had requests. A good choice for a nature break with cultural walks nearby.

I've come back to this farmhouse more than once, which says a lot. It's spacious, very clean, and well looked after, amid the olive groves and green countryside of Lazio. There's a pool, and you can go on e-bike excursions. I found it a lovely place to relax and take in the views of Civita di Bagnoregio and the badlands, with Orvieto also well placed for a visit. The hosts are kind and helpful.
