Hotel Galeazzi

We loved this charming, pretty hotel and can't wait to come back. It's a short walk from the lake and the centre, and breakfast was really good. Stephanie was so helpful with our needs and stay, and helped us arrange taxis and find good restaurants. Luigi made the evening so much fun for our family and friends as an excellent bartender.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel after how they handled our booking. Because of the war in my country, all flights were cancelled and the airspace was closed, just four days before we were due to arrive. I asked to reschedule, but couldn't give them a date yet because of the situation. They told us to cancel through the booking site so the reservation could be rescheduled, then changed it to a date when I had no flight and wanted me to pay extra. They showed no consideration for what was happening. After a long back-and-forth, they still wouldn't move the booking to a date when I had a flight, and I got no voucher or credit. The money is gone. I won't stay there on future trips to Italy, and I'll make sure my friends and acquaintances know not to go either.

There's a nice pool with plenty of loungers, though it's close to the road. The hotel sits on the main lakeside road and feels like a friendly family-run place. It was very clean, with decent facilities and a good breakfast. Our room was a good size, but the shower cubicle was tiny, and the lift was quirky. There are lots of good restaurants nearby, though the hotel doesn't serve lunch or dinner.

Sara at reception was the one bright spot of our stay. The service otherwise felt far below what we paid for. Our deluxe room was supposed to include a bubble bath, but at first we got a shower in a space less than a square metre. After we complained that the room wasn't as described, we were moved the next day. That room did have a bubble bath, but for a quick shower we had to hold the shower head so it wouldn't fall on our heads. The rooms were much smaller than the photos suggested, and unless you're on the top floor, trees block most of the view, which didn't seem worth paying extra for. At breakfast I asked three staff members what the spreads contained because of allergies, and none of them knew. No one helped with our suitcases when we arrived, which we didn't mind, but half an hour later staff brought a trolley and lifted the bags from a couple's Porsche. Arriving in “a normal Audi” shouldn't mean we get different treatment. The night guard didn't speak English and was often nowhere to be found. We didn't enjoy the stay.
