Due Piani

The farm is run by a family who make their own wine. Their red and sweet wines were good quality, though perhaps not superb, and certainly nice to share with friends. At this price, you won’t find the same quality in a supermarket. We stayed in the split-level apartment, which is quite spacious but means walking up and down between levels. It has a small balcony and a large terrace, both lovely spots for a meal, with panoramic countryside views from different angles.

The rooms are large and comfortable, and the hosts are warm and welcoming. It’s a lovely spot for a quiet break in the Tuscan countryside, with several good restaurants close by, some within walking distance, and small roads to explore. The Wi-Fi was a bit unreliable, though.

We asked people in Barberino Val d'Elsa where to find local olive oil and wine, and they sent us here. This property makes, bottles, and sells what I think is the best of both. You can enjoy breathtaking views while you’re there, too. I’ll definitely return when I’m back in the area.

The grounds are extensive, with a pool, tennis and table tennis, plus laundry facilities. The apartments have a traditional Tuscan look that some might call a little dated, but I found it charming. The owners are wonderful hosts, and the wine they make is lovely and available for sale. The property is also an easy walk from town, where there’s a great pizzeria, Il triocco, with views across the Tuscan countryside.
