We were frightened by what happened here and left as quickly as we could. I'm pregnant, and the incident caused me tremendous stress. I've never experienced behavior this aggressive from someone meant to host me. It began when we went downstairs for breakfast. The owner went into our room without our knowledge or permission to look for an iron. When we returned, we saw him in the hallway holding it and trying to speak to us in Italian, which we don't understand. Our things were unpacked, with our wallets and passports on the table. I asked why he'd entered the room. He yelled at me in Italian, using Google Translate, insisting that as the owner he had the right to enter any room at any time and take whatever he wanted without explaining himself. I didn't want to argue, so I closed the door so we could finish packing. He then banged on it violently, cursed, and shouted at us in Italian. My husband opened it to try to calm things down, but the owner kept raising his voice and lifted his arm as if he might hit him. Another woman, apparently the cleaning lady, came into the hallway, yelled at us, and cheered the owner on. I stayed quietly behind my husband until he managed to close the door after the owner finally stopped screaming. We rushed to pack and get out. A few minutes later, the owner's wife messaged me on WhatsApp to explain why she thought it was OK for him to enter, and said they didn't understand why we were so angry. She left out the screaming, yelling, and cursing. It felt like an obvious attempt at damage control. As I read her message, the owner was outside our door shouting “vai! Vai'”, which means leave or go away in Italian. After we were literally running out of the building, the owner suddenly spoke perfect English to ask whether we'd left the 4 euro tourist tax in the room.
