Doctor House - Bari Policlinico

We stayed three nights. The rooms were spacious, the bus stop is right across from the building, and there’s a washing machine in the flat. But several things made the stay difficult. The lift only fits two people, and opening its door on the apartment’s floor is very awkward. The A/C is in the living room, where there’s no bed, so that setup doesn’t make much sense. The bathing area is so cramped that even an average sized person may not fit comfortably. Hot water was missing much of the time, the supplied bath liquid came in poor quality sachets, and there weren’t any extra garbage bags. The toilet had no bin cover, there was only one pan for such a large flat, and no kitchen towels were provided.

The location worked well for the train station, and there were bars, restaurants, shops, and hospitals nearby. The rooms were large too. But there was no TV in the room, and we were cold day and night. Heating was only through the A/C, which didn’t work well. I felt a little warmth after returning from a walk, but not in every room, despite being told it was 12,000 BTU. There are radiators, but they aren’t connected. Next time, I’d need to know the heating works before booking, or I wouldn’t book this apartment again.

The location was the one good thing for us. Inside, the bedroom was dirty and there were dirty dishes in the kitchen. There was mold in the bathroom and on the A/C, which also heats the apartment. It wasn’t working, and given the mold, I wasn’t sure whether breathing it in or freezing would be worse. One bed had hair on it, making us think the sheets hadn’t been changed after the last guests. Street noise was heavy, outlets were coming out of the wall, and cables had been taped shut. We can’t recommend staying here.

What a nightmare. The apartment was dirty, neglected, and run down. The mattresses sagged, the upholstery was stained, and there was hair everywhere. The shower stall was disgusting and the showerhead was broken. The lock on the door sticks and doesn’t work properly, so you could get locked out. Shame I can’t attach photos. I think of people renting here because it’s near the hospital: they may already be going through a hard time, spend their money, and end up in a hovel.
