Villa Le Macee

We booked through VRBO based on the photos and the description of the facilities, but the place we found didn’t match what was advertised. We raised concerns with the owner and got no reply. After a long exchange with the local agent, we felt dismissed and were told our observations were wrong. The property was run down and poorly kept when we arrived, and there were no instructions for the house, including how to turn on the pool lights. We only figured that out three days later. There were at least four CCTV cameras outside, with one overlooking the pool, and we were never reassured that we weren’t being watched. It felt very uncomfortable. The jacuzzi didn’t work, several garden lights were broken, and the pool shower was blocked by overgrowth. The dirty BBQ area looked more like a campsite. Some bulbs needed replacing, the shower door wouldn’t close, and water damage and rot had developed on the bathroom floor. The shower heads were broken, so getting a decent shower was impossible. Outdoor cushions were filthy and stained, and there were no parasols. The trampoline was old and unsafe, with no safety net, and seemed like an accident waiting to happen. The house is on a hill and it was very windy most days, which is worth considering if you book this place. Inside, blankets covered the sofas, and the furnishings looked very different from the website. The toaster didn’t work and the coffee machine was filthy. The kitchen had only basic amenities, so cooking anything beyond pasta wasn’t really possible. The carving knives were dull and couldn’t even cut a melon. All the plates were chipped, and the cutlery was a mismatched collection with steak knives but no butter knives or other options. The mattresses were thin, springy, and noisy. Every time someone moved, the whole bed rattled. Update September 2025: isn’t it odd that a five-star review appeared right after ours was published? This host seems willing to use any trick to persuade people to book this dive. Don’t be fooled.

The area has plenty to explore, with local trattorias, cafés, and other attractions, but it never felt crowded or touristy. The house itself is in a wonderful location and beautifully decorated. Sabrina and Ivan managed it and were impeccable hosts. Just perfect.

The hostess and service were amazing. This is easily the most beautiful, breathtaking villa we’ve stayed in in Umbria. A definite 10/10.
