Hotel La Pergola

The beautiful lake view was the one real bright spot. The rest of our stay at Hotel Restaurant La Pergola was very frustrating. The staff were rude and distant, barely spoke to guests, and didn’t even greet us in the morning. The woman who helped us when we arrived was especially unwelcoming, which set a bad tone right away. Our room had mosquitoes everywhere and no screens or repellents. For €250 a night, a few tiny shampoo and shower gel sachets that weren’t enough for one use felt unacceptable. There were only body towels, no proper face towels, and the hairdryer was poor. Breakfast being limited to 8:00-9:30 was restrictive too.

The lake view was breathtaking, but the stay was a letdown. There were lots of mosquitoes in the room and no screens or repellents, and breakfast hours were very limited. We were also surprised by a late check-in fee that hadn’t been mentioned when we booked. It only showed up in a later email. We arrived an hour late and were charged €30 per hour per room, which seemed excessive and shocking compared with other hotels.

After 20 years in hospitality and hotel management, I’ve never seen service this shocking 😮. The menu outside showed food, but once inside we were told they served drinks only. We waited about 10 minutes, then raised our hands to order. The reply was, “you have to wait and if you don’t like go somewhere else.” I said there was no need to speak that way, and that a nice location didn’t give her the right to treat people like that. She answered, “this is my home and I do whatever I want!” We left because I didn’t want to stay another minute. As we got up, one of the owners said, “good they are leaving”. I said that was enough and I didn’t appreciate her carrying on. She had the nerve to say, “see you next time”.... As we were heading out, the other owner, I believe the father, was swearing at us. You might not believe me, but looking through the reviews will show what I mean. Instead, go to the takeaway place two minutes away. They’re lovely and make delicious sandwiches and pasta to go.
