Miralago B&B and Apartments

The host kindly let us check in and park early, and the neighborhood was quiet at night. The room and shower were small but spotless. It’s a strenuous walk to the ferry, up a long cobblestone staircase, though we saved $600 on a two-night stay compared with every other hotel in the area. The walls are very thin. I could hear a woman next door making fun of my husband coughing. Even so, we were very happy with our stay.

Francesca was kind and helpful, and made our stay smooth. The location is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. Beds were comfortable, the pillows were excellent and the AC worked well. We booked three apartments for our extended family. Two were an easy eight-minute walk apart, but the third was more than 30 minutes away on foot. The listing made it sound as if they were all close, so check each apartment’s location before booking. We ended up not needing the third one, since the other two had more space than expected. Bellagio is very hilly, so getting from the bus to the main check-in spot with luggage was a workout. Francesca kindly drove me around to each apartment, which helped a lot. Despite a few surprises about the locations, I’d stay here again. Five stars!

Our house was spacious, in decent shape and had the essentials. From the terrace you can see the lake, though it’s in the second row, and the decor reflects Bellagio’s long history as a tourist destination. Parking can be tricky in this area, and no parking is provided for the separate house. The house is a few steps from the main hotel, in a quieter part of Bellagio, away from the lively center. There’s a romantic walking route into town that takes 10 minutes at most, with cobblestone stairs. We enjoyed that setting, so make sure it suits you before booking. It’s a good deal if it does. The reception clerk was okay with us, though a little rough. The tone of the online messages and signs is similar to what other reviews describe. Since we stayed in the separate house, we had little contact with the rest of the hotel.

The rooms were clean, cozy, and had windows facing the garden. There’s also a small terrace by the apartments where you can sit with a glass of wine. Bellagio’s center is fairly close, but the pedestrian route has lots of stairs and is awkward with luggage. The car route is smoother and easier to walk, with only about a five-minute detour. We didn’t feel especially welcome at first. The host wasn’t around a few times when we had questions, and the information we got was very limited. We were disappointed, since hosts at other places we’d stayed had made us feel at home and shared local tips. We were also surprised by the €10-per-day air-conditioning fee, a first for us. And despite being called a B&B, breakfast wasn’t included.
