Albergo Cappello e Cadore

The rooms really are updated, as you’ll see in other reviews, but we had a terrible experience with the hospitality. On Thursday night the front desk guy advised us to park in the Piazza, without warning us about the restrictions. Our car was towed between Friday and Saturday. Apparently cars in the Piazza are towed on Saturday morning, even though he’d said we could park there until 8 a.m. He kept pointing to a tiny sign tucked in a corner afterward. That warning should have been clearly shown at the front desk and explained when we asked where to park. If they hadn’t recommended the Piazza, we wouldn’t have left the car there. He didn’t apologize, and when we tried to explain the issue, he called me a tramp. We were also woken four times by the fire alarm on the first night while he was on shift. After reading the reviews and responses, it’s clear to me this owner shouldn’t be in hospitality. The parking advice was the main problem, and thank you for admitting you should have told us, after we’d suffered a significant financial loss. This isn’t a retaliatory review. I’m honestly describing the attitude we experienced, which seems consistent with other reviews, and warning future guests about the lack of professionalism. The towing company also told us the hotel has a reputation for this issue.

The walls were very thin despite the recent renovation, and noise from the neighboring rooms was annoying. Breakfast was awful, and the coffee was undrinkable.

We stayed here on the day we finished eight days of hiking on Alta Via 1, and slept really well. The shower got very hot with great pressure, and its color-changing lights were a cool touch. There was air conditioning in the room too. They did our laundry for 15 euro, which meant we could wash all our hiking clothes. Breakfast at the hotel the next morning was great, and they arranged a taxi back to Cortina. A great stay.

After hiking in the area, I spent one night here and would recommend it. The location is right in central Belluno, near a supermarket, pharmacy, bars, and restaurants. The staff were very pleasant, and the laundry service was good value.
