Hotel Ristorante S'Astore

We turned up at midnight after flight delays made it impossible to reach the accommodation we’d originally booked. The hotel had a lovely room available and welcomed us in so kindly. They really got us out of a tough spot. We’d absolutely recommend staying here.

The pool area was good, and the staff were friendly. We liked the traditional rooms too. The restaurant wasn’t open during our stay, and our credit cards didn’t work. The rest was good. I’m not entirely convinced it deserves four stars, but we’d stay again.

It felt like visiting a family, with friendly, kind staff. This is a lovely family-run hotel in a small village, a good fit if you’re looking for a less touristy side of Sardinia. We were the only foreigners there.

The breakfast was poor: the same loaf was served again each day until just four dry pieces remained, the ham was bad, and the fruit was mouldy. One night my friends were sitting in the garden and found the doors locked when they tried to come inside. They hammered on the door and shouted for an hour and a half, until a kind German tourist got up at 1.30 in the morning to let them in. On alternate days, the hotel’s front doors were all locked by 6 pm, so we had to use some steps at the back. Very welcoming. We also had trouble right from arrival. The owners said we had no reservation, though we showed them the paperwork proving we did. They took our money without a smile and argued over whether we’d booked a superior room. We had, and one couple got one while the other didn’t. They said the other superior room was occupied. The next day, after we mentioned tripadvisor, it suddenly became available, even though the owners didn’t speak English, which is fine, why should they. Lunch at the restaurant wasn’t good, and much of the menu wasn’t available. The website photos must have been taken by a very good photographer. We were then told the restaurant would close for the next few days, something nobody had mentioned when we booked. They also said there was no wi-fi, though it worked briefly after my friend rebooted it. With a little TMC and people who had a better attitude, this could be a decent hotel. Please don’t trust the photos. Avoid this place. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy here.
