Antico Borgo Carceri

Elena and Stefano made our stay feel personal, with their warm hospitality and thoughtful recommendations. And don’t skip breakfast, Elena’s homemade pastries were incredible. We came across Antico Borgo Carceri by chance and were so glad: it’s a real gem in the heart of Umbria, with peaceful surroundings and breathtaking views of Assisi. The apartments were spotless and cozy, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. A lovely place to unwind after exploring nearby towns and vineyards. Highly recommend.

Breakfast was fantastic, with home-baked pastries and prosciutto from Norcia. Having coffee and breakfast against the backdrop of the Umbrian hills and Assisi made for an incredibly peaceful start to the day. Elena and Stefano are excellent hosts, and we felt right at home in this beautiful borgo in the heart of Umbria. We’ll definitely return on our next trip to Umbria. Thank you, Elena and Stefano.

Elena’s lavish breakfast is a treat, especially since she’s something of a pastry chef. The small hotel has a charming pool and panoramic views of Assisi, perched on Mount Subasio. A wonderful couple have poured their hearts into turning the medieval building into a welcoming sanctuary. They’ve kept its historic character while adding modern comforts, and the whole place feels like home. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool or enjoying the views, it’s a peaceful, memorable way to experience Umbria’s beauty and history.

The owners clearly care about both the place and the people who stay there. In one of our long conversations, they said they think of their work as welcoming guests into their home, and it really comes across. It’s a beautiful place with wonderful people.
