Hotel Gabbani

The price felt too high for what you get, and there’s no breakfast included, so you have to go across the street to the coffee bar. The clean room was quite small, with no parking space for loading or unloading suitcases. The air conditioning only works when the key card is inserted and makes a lot of noise. Calling this a B&B doesn’t seem appropriate.

The room itself was clean, nice, and reasonably well equipped, though nothing special. The heat made the stay miserable. We had warned the hotel we’d arrive after 8 p.m., but when we got to the room late, it was around 90°F (32.1°C). We left the AC running full blast all night and it was still over 76°F in the morning. I’d paid for an extra bed so my son could sleep separately, but it was too far from the AC and too hot, so he had to share my bed. When we mentioned the temperature to the woman at the front desk the next morning, she brushed it off and said the room should cool quickly. We’d prepaid two nights through Orbitz, so we came back the second evening. The room was around 85°F, and we asked to leave the AC on while we went to dinner and did a little sightseeing. The woman at the desk acted like that was an unreasonable request. They did leave it on, but it barely helped. Near midnight it was still over 80°F, and it only got close to comfortable by checkout the next morning. I tried to add a photo showing 32.1°C, but it seems it never uploaded.

The hotel is small, very clean, and practical, and it’s well placed for visiting nearby hill towns or seaside villages. Parking is free and very close by, and there’s also a mini market and tobacco shop along the road. One thing that could be improved is the single key: if one person goes out for a smoke or coffee while the other is asleep, you either have to leave the door open or leave the room without lights and air conditioning, which is needed in August. The fridge also worked poorly, and stopped when we were out because there was only one key. Since this is a B&B without breakfast, it might be worth charging a few euros more and letting guests have breakfast at the very good pastry shop next door.

The room was a bit noisy, but the service was good and it was super clean. I’d gladly stay here again.
