Hotel Amburgo

We spent four nights here with the family in August, and it felt much closer to a 4-star stay than the hotel's stated 3 stars. The staff were lovely and clearly wanted guests to feel comfortable. The place was spotless, with the room and bathroom cleaned every day, and the building and facilities had been renovated a few years ago. Our room had plenty of space for three. The mattress was comfortable and firm, including the extra bed, and I was pleased to see part of the beach from the balcony. Breakfast was delicious, especially the cappuccino. The hotel beach section was about a three-minute walk away, with loungers and umbrellas included. We could also borrow bikes and locks for free, which made getting around town easy. Street parking came with the room, around 30-40 metres from the entrance. I paid a 50 EUR deposit for the permit and got it back at the end. Without it, street parking would've cost 1.5 EUR an hour. Everything worked out perfectly.

We had a relaxing holiday at Hotel Amburgo, and the team deserves a lot of the credit. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and spoke several languages. The room and rooftop pool were very clean, and borrowing the hotel bikes was a lovely way to see the countryside nearby. The meals were a real highlight: breakfast had a huge, tasty and healthy selection, while dinner was varied, delicious, and beautifully served. Hotel Amburgo is a family-run place that's been going for 50 years. Thanks to the whole team for a great stay.

We've stayed at Hotel Amburgo several times, including twice this summer, first in late August and then again in September. In September we had our usual Junior Suite, and everything was fine: excellent cleanliness, helpful staff, a very kind and attentive owner, great food, and perfect beach service. Thanks for a pleasant stay. August was less good than the standard we'd come to expect. The triple room had a sofa bed for our 13-year-old son, though it was meant for children under 12, so it didn't feel like a proper triple. It also wasn't clean enough: there was dust on a shelf and no toilet paper. The view wasn't appealing either. We were told checkout was at 10:00, but the housekeeper came in before 9:00. After breakfast we couldn't get back into the room, not even to use the toilet before a long drive. The half-board meals were ample and excellent, with dinner better than at many other half-board hotels. Despite that one disappointing visit, Hotel Amburgo is still among the best hotels we've stayed at in Italy, and we'd gladly return.

We booked directly because booking.com showed no parking available. When we arrived at 16:30, our space was already taken and we were told to pay for parking inside the hotel. There were three of us, but only two beds had been made up. Dinner was supposed to be included, then we were asked to pay extra for it. That evening we found the room lock was broken, so we couldn't secure the door overnight. No one was at reception when we wanted help fixing it. When we explained all this at departure and said we weren't satisfied, the receptionist only said, “ok, ok.” We asked to keep the car in the lot for another two hours, until 12:00, but were refused despite lots of empty spaces and hardly any cars there. Other guests weren't due to check in until much later, so we had to pay to park in front of the hotel instead. The price was much higher than on booking.com and didn't match the service at all. We own a 4-star hotel and feel we can judge the situation well. We'd had a positive experience here about four years ago, but unfortunately can't recommend it after this stay.
