B&B Gran Suite Piazza Maggiore

We were charged a cleaning fee before we were allowed in, but the place certainly hadn’t been cleaned. It was dark, dingy, unclean, and overpriced, with an uncomfortable bed and holes in the sheets. The bathroom was dirty, the sink was blocked, there was no soap or shampoo in the shower, and the drain cover was loose. Breakfast was basic and not fresh. Getting inside was frustrating. Texts and calls to management went unanswered, and without a Good Samaritan, Gina, we’d still have been standing in the alley wondering how to get in. I’m not sure what the cleaning money was used for. This was easily the most overpriced and disappointing place we encountered in Europe. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

It’s one of the cheaper places to stay, and it really isn’t that bad. I have no other complaints, though a shower mount would’ve helped since holding the shower head the whole time can be inconvenient.

The only good thing was the location. We paid a cleaning fee on arrival, but the room was dirty, and the breakfast table wasn’t clean either. The water bottles in the fridge even stank. There was no air conditioning, despite it being listed when we booked, and the shower stayed freezing cold all day, worse than camping. It was the dirtiest, most awful stay I’ve had, worse than a hostel. All the problems made me forget the one positive. I wouldn’t recommend it. If zero stars were possible, that’s what I’d give.

The location is very good, but there’s little else to praise. We waited 1.5 hours trying to reach someone for check-in at 4:30 pm, with nobody answering the phone. The room was freezing even with the heater at full power. The bathroom had dust, red grime, and black mold, and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly. Someone put loud music on the Alexa in the common room at 6:40 am and left it playing. That wasn’t the facility’s fault, but I’d suggest removing the device so it can’t be abused. Breakfast was packaged merendine, bread, and tiny pieces of meat and cheese from previous days. I’d rather not know how long the marmelade and honey had been sitting out. There were far-right books on the shelves, in Bologna.
