You can hear almost everything through the walls: street horns, people talking in their rooms, even vibrations when a neighbor opens a suitcase or showers at 3 a.m. The rooms really aren’t soundproof. On Sunday nobody came by, and the coffee machine was locked, so I couldn’t open it to refill the tank. Making coffee felt like a gamble because I couldn’t tell if there was enough water. With breakfast included in a nice Italian city, I’d hoped to get at least one coffee. There are better options. Update: They came and refilled the machine’s water tank. Sorry for my earlier incorrect comments.

My sixth-floor room was clean, modern, and comfortable, with a small balcony and a nice view. Check-in was automated, and the owner was very kind and helpful. Breakfast came with one coupon for a brioche or croissant and a cappuccino or juice. There was some construction or repair work during my stay, and the room wasn’t very soundproof. The owner’s dog startled me a few times when I came into the corridor.

Hola Bologna is a set of apartments on the sixth floor of a building, rather than a hotel. We paid 500 euros for five nights, breakfast included at a nearby caffeteria, mainly pastries, pizza, and coffee. The room suited two adults and a child, with a double bed and an extendible sofa. It had a modern, spacious bathroom and a properly equipped kitchenette, though I missed having a wine opener. We were satisfied with the conditions overall, and the guest lady was kind and helpful. I’d give it five stars.

The corridor noise carries loudly into the rooms, and the blankets and sheets weren’t very comfortable. Still, it’s clean and has what you need for a one-night stop in Bologna.
